Ahead of the highly anticipated bout, Sean O’Malley has made quite an interesting statement around the outcome of the fight. It is worth noting that ‘Suga’ is ranked number 13 in the Bantamweight division. On the flipside, Petr Yan is the ranked number 1.

So it is safe to say that Sean O’Malley is taking a giant leap in the level of opposition he has faced so far inside the octagon. While majority of the MMA pundits have suggested O’Malley will get demolished by Petr Yan, the 27-year-old himself isn’t quite worried about the outcome.
During a recent interview with BT Sport, Sean O’Malley suggested that he’ll be alright if he ended up losing to Petr Yan wouldn’t mean the end of his journey. While claiming that he’ll be the champion one day regardless of the outcome of his upcoming fight, he said:
“Say I go out there and lose to Petr. I’m not gonna lose confidence, I’m not gonna be like ‘Oh I suck’. It’s like I lost to the number one guy in the world. I’m gonna get that back someday. Losing to Petr wouldn’t be the end of the train. I’m still going to be champ.”
It is safe to say that Sean O’Malley has offered a very different take than what we’re used to. More often than not, fighters don’t entertain the idea of losing their upcoming bouts. However, O’Malley is respecting the level of opposition he’s about to face and knows that anything can happen in the fight.
It remains to be seen as to whether or not Sean O’Malley can avoid defeat by the hands of Petr Yan come October 22nd or not.
