Ahead of facing Mateuz Gamrot, Beneil Dariush made it known that he will expect to be next in title contention after beating Gamrot. However, he also suggested that the UFC does not guarantee anything and we’ll find in out only after the two fights. During a recent interview with The Schmo, he said:
“That’s what I’m assuming too [that the winner of his fight will compete for the championship]. I don’t see how we’re gonna find any way around it. The UFC, they never give you guarantees, but I’m just assuming it is what it is, alright?”

It is worth noting that Beneil Dariush was scheduled to face Islam Makhachev in a title eliminator earlier this year. However, the fight was eventually cancelled as Dariush had to withdraw from the fight because of an injury.
While Islam Makhachev was given the opportunity to directly fight for the title post a canceled fight against Beneil Dariush, the latter now finds himself in what could be considered a title eliminator.
Beneil Dariush will look to make the full use of the opportunity against Mateuz Gamrot to potentially book a shot at the title. However, Gamrot will do everything in his power to stop the number 6 ranked Lightweight in the world.
Mateuz Gamrot is coming off an impressive win over Arman Tsarukyan. And will be motivated to get a shot at the UFC Lightweight championship himself. It will be interesting to see if Beneil Dariush is able to overcome Gamrot and get a title shot himself or not. However, regardless of the outcome, the ball lies in UFC’s court and it will be interesting to see what happens in the division next.
