Following a dramatic submission win over Michael Chiesa, Luque could raise his status in the 170 lbs division. Although it wasn’t an easily earned win, the 6th ranked welterweight fighter still allured the divisional kingpin.
UFC 265 reflected umpteen thriller bouts, including Michael Chiesa vs Vicente Luque. That said, Chiesa almost submitted his rival, when we saw the tables turn quickly. After several failed attempts at choking out Luque, Chiesa fell prey to his opponent’s antic and found himself locked in a rear-naked choke. While it was his plan to choke out Luque initially, a reverse scenario took out Chiesa from the competition.
Hence, Kamru Usman shed his views on social media and hailed Vicente Luque for his impeccable showdown at UFC 265. In the aftermath of the fight, Luque passed a respectful callout towards Usman which the champion couldn’t avoid responding to.

Meanwhile, Luque might have to prove his worth a few more times, before receiving a shot at the welterweight gold. As of now, Kamaru Usman is scheduled to defend his title against Colby Covington.
