UEFA Transfer Rule: New UEFA Transfer Rule: Chelse Transfers:  After hearing complaints from rival Premier League clubs, UEFA is expected to eliminate the loophole that allowed Chelsea to spread the cost of their record transfer spending over up to eight years. Several clubs had accused Chelsea of trying to violate FFP rules by spreading Mykhailo Mudryk’s £88 million price across an eight-year period for accounting purposes.  Follow Premier League Updates on InsideSport.IN

FIFA regulations currently limit contracts to five years, but there are exceptions that may be made, which Chelsea has taken use of to postpone much of the expense of the record £460 million in transfers since Todd Boehly bought the club in July. Following the signings of Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella to seven and six-year contracts, respectively, last summer, French defender Benoit Badiashile and Ivory Coast striker David Datro Fofana signed six-and-a-half-year contracts this month. Mudryk, who signed the longest contract in Premier League history, was the only other player to do so.

UEFA has responded and is proposing to create a five-year limit for the amount of time over which a player’s transfer cost can be spread starting next summer after being made aware of what appears to be a clear pattern by other teams. The rule change won’t have an impact on Chelsea’s most recent acquisitions, but it will probably reduce their latitude in future transfer windows.

With a total of £460 million already setting records for the world and the Premier League, Chelsea’s extravagant spending between the summer and January transfer windows is anticipated to break further records. Manchester City, which spent £328.1 million in 2017–18, set the previous record.
