The first half began on quite a positive note with the Dutch side eager to have a grand start. The Men in orange were dominant in the opening minutes as Belgium failed to mark their grip on the game. However, Memphis Depay and Co failed to consolidate their chances as Simon Mignolet kept the Belgians at bay.
The first chance of the game came to Belgium. Out in a form of a counter-attack in the 13th minute of the game, a thunderous shot from Timothy Castagne deflected the bar as Belgium was denied a glorious goal. The 25th minute saw a disadvantage for Belgium after their star man Romelu Lukaku was subbed off after picking up an injury against Nathan Ake.
But the constant charge from the Dutch counted right before the half-time. Out of a counterattack, Steven Bergwijn received the ball some 25 years out and went on to score an absolute stunner. The young Dutch forward executed a knuckleball shot that flew to the button corner of the net, with Simon Mignolet having nothing to do.

The Netherlands were terrific throughout the first half and they deserved the opening goal. In the added minutes of the opening half, a cross from Dumfries got deflected off Castagne as the Dutch team claimed shouts for a penalty. The ref opted for the VAR and then finally ruled out a penalty after the replay showed the ball hitting the face of the Belgian defender.

Barely 5 minutes into the second half and Belgium extend their lead. The ball got snatched off from the feet of Boyata by Klassen and Berghuis lays it off to Depay. Memphis runs between two Belgian defenders and with much ease slots it at the back of the net. 2-0 to the Netherlands.
The next two goals came in quick succession. Right outside the box, Steven Berghuis took a wonderful shot at the goal and an equally brilliant effort from Simon Mignolet sees the ball go to an arriving Daley Blind. Blind rather than taking a shot passes it back to his other full-back and Dumfries simply taps in to score.
The fourth goal saw a complete lack of defensive cohesiveness from the Belgians. Virgil Van Dijk lobs a long ball from his place into the final third of the opponent. A non-tiring Daley heads it to Memphis Depay who thunders it into the net to score his brace.

Belgium pulled a goal back, which was then ruled as offside. Michy Batshuayi took on a lovely receive and took a dash at the goal. Cillessen blocked it well by Castagne put it back into the net. The Dutch side raised claims for offside as VAR clearly pointed out that Batshuayi was inches off and thereby it is not a goal for the ever trying Belgium.
But the hosts managed to pull back a consolation goal in the last minute of the game. Mitchy Batshuayi picks up on a lovely cross from defender Toby Alderweireld and puts it at the back of the net, to deny their neighbouring rivals a clean sheet.
