Simeone’s Atletico Madrid emerged as 1-0 winners in the second leg of the match against Manchester United, courtesy of a goal from Renan Lodi, and subsequently secured a 2-1 triumph in aggregate. Known for being animated in the touchline, Diego Simeone could not control his ecstasy at full-time and started his usual theatrics, involving throwing punches and high fives.

Simeone does not shake hands with Rangnick – As he frequently does, the Spanish tactician also did not engage in the customary full-time handshake with the opposition manager, Ralf Rangnick. Simeone’s antics added fuel to the rage of an already hostile Manchester United crowd at the Old Trafford, and what followed was beyond disgusting.

Just as El Cholo was making his way down the tunnel to celebrate with his players, the Red Devils fans pelted him with various objects. In one instance, a glass of drink almost struck him on his head but he did well to take evasive action.
The two-time La Liga winning manager did well to keep his calm and not incite the fans further by reacting to the incident, but it does not necessarily mean that the incident will be forgotten about.

UEFA to take action? Manchester United have not many any comments on the incident yet, but it will be interesting to see whether Los Colchoneros demand action from UEFA, whilst the governing body themselves could open an investigation as well. In any case, things are looking pretty grim for the Red Devils both on and off the pitch.
- After the full-time whistle, Diego Simeone did not shake hands with Ralf Rangnick.
- Previously, Simeone had elaborated that he does not subscribe to the idea of shaking hands after the match as the two teams are in a different emotional state.
- The always-animated manager instead started throwing fist-punches in ecstasy right after the full-time whistle.
- The already-infuriated Manchester United fans at the Old Trafford did not like Simeone’s gesture and in what was a shameful act, a section of the fans started throwing objects at him as he made his way down the tunnel.
- Simeone did not react to that incident as he dodged past whatever was thrown at him.
- While Manchester United have not commented on this incident, it now remains to be seen whether UEFA will take action against the club for this abhorrent behaviour.
