UEFA Champions League: FC Porto welcomed Juventus at the Estadio do Dragao to play the 1st leg of the Round of 16 fixture. The hosts stunned the Serie A champions as they defeated them 2-1 at home.
Andrea Pirlo opted for one change to his starting 11 against Napoli. Alvaro Morata, who did not score in 7 Serie A games was dropped and Kulusevski was given a chance in the starting 11.
This changed Pirlo’s side and gave it more flexibility for them to operate in a 4-4-2, 4-2-3-1, and even a 3-5-2.
Porto manager Sergio Conceicao made 4 changes to his side after their draw against Boavista. Mbembe and Sanusi returned in defense. Corona, who returned from suspension this weekend, started on the right, while Uribe and Otavio were two other introductions.
FC Porto take an early lead
It just took FC Porto 2 minutes to go ahead and take the lead in this game. Mehdi Taremi pounced on a loose ball played by Bentancur to tap-in from inside the six-yard area. This was a goal out of nothing as the Juventus side was caught napping at the back.
Porto double their lead early in the 2nd half
FC Porto doubled their lead in the opening of the second half. It happened again instantly after kick-off, just like their first goal. This time it was Moussa Marega who latched onto Manafa’s pass before taking a touch and slotting a left-footed finish past Szczesny at the near post.
It was a great touch by the Porto forward which allowed him to get between de Ligt and Demiral before slamming inside the area in the 46th minute to double the lead for the Portuguese side.
Juventus get an away goal
Adrien Rabiot went roaming down the left-hand side, reaching the byline, and crossed towards the penalty spot. The ball evaded every player but Chiesa was alert to the opportunity.
He prodded a right-footed effort into the bottom left corner to cut the deficit into half and gain an important away goal for the visitors.
