It’s been six years since Tokyo was awarded the Olympic Games. In that time, stadiums have been under construction, and the Olympic Torch has been designed, metal has been collected for the Olympic medals, and Miraitowa has won the hearts of kids all over the world. Now, ticket sales start.

Starting today (Wednesday), Japanese residents can apply for Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games tickets.

The lottery for the initial offering of Olympic Games tickets for sale to residents of Japan runs until May 28. Pre-registration via the TOKYO 2020 ID portal is required to enter the lottery. The results of the lottery will be announced on June 20.

The Official Ticket Website contains the latest information on the event line-up for each session of the Games, details of the different categories of tickets and seat maps, as well as ticket sales guidelines.

Should they not be successful in the lottery, residents of Japan will still be able to purchase tickets during the first-come, first-served phase, which will commence in autumn 2019. A final phase of ticket sales will start in the spring of 2020, offering first-come, first-served sales on a global basis. Details will be announced later.

Paralympic ticket sales will commence in summer 2019.

Overseas residents will soon be able to purchase tickets through Authorised Ticket Resellers (ATRs). ATRs are official sales channels outside of Japan appointed by the National Olympic Committees of the individual countries and regions and approved by Tokyo 2020 and have the exclusive right to sell Games tickets in agreed countries and regions.

ATRs can commence ticket sales from June 15. The sales launch date in each territory may vary.

While overseas residents cannot purchase tickets via the Tokyo 2020 Official Ticket Website at this stage, this option will be available to them from the spring of 2020.
