The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Tokyo 2020) has announced that applications for participation in a lottery for the initial offering of Olympic Games tickets will be accepted from residents of Japan from May 9 to 28 2019. The lottery results will be announced on June 20.

Applications can only be made online via the Tokyo 2020 Official Ticket Website, which was launched yesterday (Thursday). Pre-registration on TOKYO 2020 ID portal is necessary to enter the lottery, which can be done at TOKYO 2020 ID Website.

Fans will be able to apply for tickets to the Olympic Games through the lottery phase until 28 May. Should they not be successful in the lottery, residents of Japan will still be able to request tickets during the first-come, first-served phase, which will commence in autumn 2019.

A further phase of ticket sales will start in the spring of 2020, offering first-come, first-served sales on a global basis.

With a record 339 events in 33 sports, Tokyo 2020 will offer non-stop action.

Paralympic ticket sales will commence later.

People living outside of Japan will be able to purchase tickets through Authorised Ticket Resellers (ATRs). ATRs are official sales channels outside of Japan appointed by the National Olympic Committees of the individual countries and regions and approved by Tokyo 2020, and have the exclusive right to sell Games tickets in agreed countries and regions.

From May 9, ATRs can conduct promotional activities with fans in their assigned territories and engage them in Olympic ticket promotion prior to the launch of actual ticket sales. ATRs can commence their ticket sales from 15 June 2019. The sales launch date in each territory may vary depending on each ATR’s sales plans and schedules.

While overseas residents cannot purchase tickets via the Tokyo 2020 Official Ticket Website at this stage, this option will be available to them only next year.
