The Rishi Dhawan-led side has surprised everyone with their performance this season but they will be up against a team laden with match-winners. In a conversation with InsideSport, the Himachal batsman talked about his team’s performance in the tournament and said that they are ready for the historical moment.

“Yes, this is the first time Himachal has reached the finals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy and we are very much confident about our chances. This is because we have worked so hard over the years. 

“This same team has played the semifinals and finals of U19. We had the same coach, Mr. Anuj Pal Das, with us then and he is here with us now as well. So, we are here to lift the title of this Vijay Hazare Trophy,” a confident Nikhil Gangta told InsideSport ahead of the final on December 26.

The 29-year-old cricketer accepted the fact that it is a big day for his team but also emphasized that Himachal will win their maiden Vijay Hazare title. “Yes, tomorrow will be a big day for us but I am sure we are going to win the cup,” he said.

In a fairytale season for Himachal Pradesh, both Nikhil Gangta and skipper Rishi Dhawan have stepped up whenever required. With two half-centuries, Gangta has scored 184 runs @36.80 in the five games he has played so far. His highest score of 81 came against Odisha which helped Himachal post a mammoth 360/5 and register a fine victory by 63 runs.

In the quarterfinal against Uttar Pradesh, Gangta played a crucial knock of 58 runs before perishing to Ankit Rajpoot. Moreover, his 122-run partnership with Prashant Chopra set the stage for a fine chase and helped Himachal to move ahead to the semifinals. he will be hoping for another good knock in the final and impress IPL scouts ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction in February.

Apart from Nikhil Gangta, Himachal have two more players, captain Rishi Dhawan and Prashant Chopra to rely upon in what is going to be a tough clash against Tamil Nadu in the finals. While Prashant Chopra has been their best batter with 435 runs in the seven games, Rishi Dhawan has led his team from the front in the tournament. The 31-year-old has performed both with bat and ball.

Dhawan has scored 416 runs @69.33 and an impressive strike rate of 123.44. He has also claimed 14 wickets from the seven games he has played. In the semifinals against Services, the Himachal captain scored 84* and backed it with a 4-fer.
