The Hundred: Aaron Finch, Nicholas Pooran, Meg Lanning pull out T20 tournament: The inaugural edition of The Hundred isn’t gearing up for good reasons as a number of leading overseas players have already withdrawn due to the overlap of the international calendar and travel complications during the Covid-19 pandemic. Recently, Aaron Finch, Nicholas Pooran, and Meg Lanning announced their withdrawal from the tournament.

After these players made themselves unavailable for the upcoming tournament, players like Faf du Plessis, Shabnim Ismail, Imran Tahir, and Laura Wolvaardt have been signed up as their replacements. As of now, ECB has confirmed a total of 21 replacements before the commencement of the tournament.

Ever since the Australian contingent in the women’s competition has been particularly affected due to Covid, South African women’s players have signed as replacements.

The Hundred: Faf du Plessis takes Northern Superchargers captaincy charge in Finch’s absence

As Finch and Adam Zampa have joined their international teammates and withdrawn from ‘The Hundred’ tournament, Chris Lynn and Josh Inglis remain the only Australian players who will be involved in the men’s competition. Moreover, with Finch’s absence now, Northern Superchargers have adjudged South Africa’s player du Plessis as the captain for the side.

Sanjay Patel, the competition’s managing director, said: “We know that the ongoing situation with the Covid pandemic and an incredibly busy international schedule has caused significant challenges for a number of international players, but we are delighted with the quality of players who have come in.”
