- At the Gstaad Open this year, he registered his best performance of the year so far by reaching the semifinal. He lost the match to Matteo Berrettini in straight sets.
- He then played at home in the Austrian Open and made it to the quarterfinal. He also reached the third round at the Winston-Salem Open.
- A former champion at the US Open, this year he crashed out from the first round after losing to 12th seed Pablo Carreno Busta in four sets.

Thiem vs Cilic Head-to-Head: The upcoming contests will be the fifth time both the players will face each other in the ATP tour. All their last four meetings were won by Dominic Thiem. They last met at the Roland Garros in 2020. Cilic is the higher ranked player and enters the contest as the favourite, but it won’t be easy to defeat an opponent like Thiem given his poor record against the Austrian. A blockbuster contest is on the cards.
