India T20 WC Squad: In-form batter Shreyas Iyer will not make the trip to Australia for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Shreyas was amongst the reserves for the tournament but has decided against traveling, joining up with the Mumbai Squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT20). As per a Cricbuzz report, Shreyas Iyer will join up with the Mumbai squad led by Ajinkya Rahane for the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Shreyas was initially slated to travel to Australia with Mohammed Shami, Ravi Bishnoi and Deepak Chahar after the end of the South Africa series. However, Shami has flown in the company of Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur with Iyer and Bishnoi staying back.

As per Cricbuzz, Shreyas will travel to Rajkot from Delhi and join the Mumbai side. Vice-captain for the South Africa ODIs, the 27-year-old took special permission from the BCCI and the team management to play in the tournament. Unlike Bishnoi and Umran Malik, Iyer is likely to rest for a couple of days before stepping onto the field.

Shreyas Iyer was in contention for a place in the T20 World Cup squad but eventually lost out to Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav. Iyer was however named among the four standby players for the tournament. The Mumbai-born batsman has been in stunning form, scoring a fifty and a hundred in the ODI series.
He also has a favourable record for Mumbai, scoring 802 runs in 37 innings for the domestic giants. Iyer averages 34.47 and has scored at a strike rate of 137.53 with a best score of 147, the highest by an Indian in the format.
