T20 World Cup: MS Dhoni trend during ENG vs NZ 1st Semi-final: The first semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2021 was played between England and New Zealand in Abu Dhabi last night. Kane Williamson led New Zealand not only avenged its 2019 WC defeat to England but also knocked the pre-tournament favorites out of the competition to storm into their maiden T20 World Cup final. However, in the midst of all, former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni started to trend on social media, especially on Twitter. Read on to know the reason. Chasing 167 runs target, New Zealand had one of the worst starts and were lagging behind in most part of the run chase. However, New Zealand opener Daryl Mitchell played a match-winning knock of 72* off 47 deliveries and guided his side over the line successfully by batting throughout the innings.

And, this reminded former New Zealand fast bowler Simon Doull of something MS Dhoni had said to him about finishing the game. While doing commentary in the match, Doull found a resemblance in Daryl Mitchell’s knock to what MS Dhoni has once said to him. Doull said the following during the live match –

“The great MS Dhoni, the great finisher… once said to me that the longer you bat and the deeper you take the game, the more worried is the opposition and its bowler. That has what Daryl Mitchell has done here tonight. He saw the first two New Zealand wickets go down cheaply but ensured he batted through, and here is… taking his team closer to a place in the final,” said Doull.

Daryl Mitchell was adjudged man of the match for his unbeaten knock built a couple of vital partnerships with Devon Conway and James Neesham and was determined to not lose his wicket after his opening partner Martin Guptill and skipper Kane Williamson departed cheaply inside the powerplay and later finished the match in style with a boundary.
