T20 World Cup: Five Indian stars who could potentially miss out on final squad, announcement at 9 PM today; follow live updates – BCCI and the Chetan Sharma led selection committee has already decided on the 15-member India squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the UAE. The 15-man contingent has been decided in line with inputs from head coach Ravi Shastri and captain Virat Kohli for the mega event. While most of the squad picks itself, many stars had been competing for a few roster spots, meaning a handful of stars missed out on call ups to the main squad.
As per Insidesport.co’s earlier report, the squad had already been decided with the team set to be announced after Virat Kohli and Co finish the 4th test in the ongoing England tour. Here’s a look at five top players who missed out on a spot in India’s T20 World Cup squad.

T20 World Cup: Five Indian stars who could potentially miss out on final squad
1. Rahul Chahar
Rahul Chahar was competing for the second spinner’s slot in India’s T20 World Cup squad but eventually lost out to Varun Chakravarthy. Chahar has been one of the finds in recent seasons and had been in fine form in Phase 1 of the IPL 2021. The 22-year-old has played five T20Is for India, picking seven wickets at an impressive economy of 7.61. In the IPL, Rahul Chahar picked 11 wickets in seven games earlier this year, while had 15 wickets last year.
2. Sanju Samson
Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson remains one of India’s most destructive players in the shortest format of the game, but his poor returns during the India vs Sri Lanka saw him miss out on the squad, with Ishan Kishan making the cut. Samson was in destructive form in IPL 2021 Phase 1, scoring 277 runs in just seven games, including a century. The keeper-batsman can tonk the ball with ease and his versatility make him an asset, but the option wasn’t considered by the selectors.

3. Deepak Chahar
Perhaps the biggest name missing from India’s T20 World Cup squad is Deepak Chahar, who has showcased his skills with both bat and ball during the tour of Sri Lanka. With Bhuvneshwar Kumar selected as India’s primary swing bowler and Shardul Thakur providing the much-needed batting option at No.8, Deepak Chahar had to miss out on the final squad. Chahar has picked up 20 wickets in just 14 games for India while bagging 42 wickets over the last two and a half IPL seasons.
4. Prithvi Shaw
Prithvi Shaw was in fine form throughout the domestic season and the IPL 2021 and was discussed as one of the backup openers for the team. However, with Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli as options, Prithvi Shaw had to sit out and was omitted from India’s T20 World Cup squad. The Delhi Capitals opener scored 308 runs in just eight games in Phase 1 and has been included as one of the reserves for the squad.
5. Washington Sundar
Washington Sundar suffered an injury while playing in the tour game during India’s tour of England. The all-rounder was subsequently ruled out of the series and the IPL 2021 Phase 2, but is likely to be named among the reserves should he prove his fitness. Sundar remains ahead of Krunal Pandya in the pecking order, and will be the first choice as a replacement should worst-case scenario happens with star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.
