Despite being with Indian squad for the West Indies tour, Harshal did not feature in any T20Is. He was ruled out of the two T20Is in Miami as well after the rub injury got the better of him. Harshal then took to the Instagram and showed his fitness regime and wrote,

“Back to the grind!! Sometimes the silver lining with injury is that it allows you the time to train without thinking about competition which is precious. Looking forward to these 3-4 weeks of getting stronger, faster and more robust.”

The ace bowler has been part of the Indian team set-up ever since exploding on to the scene in 2021. Harshal won the Purple for most wickets in the IPL 2021 for the Royal Challengers Bangalore that season.

India’s options for Harshal

In terms of fast bowlers, India fielded Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Arshdeep Singh in all five T20Is in the West Indies. While Avesh Khan was also the star attraction during the series. Hardik Pandya, the all-rounder, played the first three games, but was rested for the fourth T20 before returning to lead the Indian team for the fifth T20.

Arshdeep was impressive as well with his spell for the nation and was adjudged ‘Player of the Series’. Harshal has been the designated death bowler for India in T20Is since making his debut last year. In 2022, he has picked up 19 wickets in 15 T20Is at an economy of 8.76. Only Bhuvneshwar has picked up more wickets – 20 in ten games – for India in this period.
