Tamil Nadu beat Maharashtra – Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021: Defending champions Tamil Nadu began their SMAT 2021 campaign on a good note, defeating Maharashtra by 12 runs in Lucknow on Thursday. Ruturaj Gaikwad continued his good form slamming a half-century but his efforts were not enough as Tamil Nadu restricted Maharashtra to 155 after posting 168. Follow live updates of SMAT 2021 on InsideSport.

Opting to bowl first, Maharashtra didn’t have a good start as Tamil Nadu openers Narayana Jagadeeshan and Hari Nishanth shared a 51-run opening partnership. Once Nishanth fell, Jagadeeshan continued with Sai Sudharsan. With a quickfire 35 off 19, Sai Sudharsan took the game away. He was followed by skipper Vijay Shankar who hammered a 20-ball 40 as Tamil Nadu posted 167/4.
