SA vs SL 2nd Test – IPL 2020 fastest ball hero Anrich Nortje shines again: South Africa Anrich Nortje bowled the fastest ball of IPL history in 13th edition of the league in UAE. On Sunday, the Proteas pacer was again on fire and on receiving end was the Sri Lankan batsman in the 2nd Test match of the ongoing series. Nortje ripped out the middle and lower order of Sri Lanka to claim figures of 6 for 56 – the best in his fledgling career so far.
He was frequently hitting speeds of above 90mph/145kph, and unsettled several batsmen with his bouncer – exactly the same way he did playing for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020.
Nortje started with dismissal of Dimuth Karunaratne early by gaining steep bounce from just short of a length – the Sri Lankan captain could not handle his pace and went back to pavilion for just 2.
Once Wiaan Mudler set Sri Lanka’s collapse in motion in the overs just before lunch, Nortje came back to completely derail Lankan innings as the visitors folded for just 157 runs.
IPL 2020: Nortje bowled the fastest bowl in IPL history against Rajasthan Royals
Notably, Nortje clocked 156.22 kmph against RR opener Jos Buttler. The ball bowled by Nortje was the fastest delivery recorded in IPL history since a speed gun was introduced in the tournament.
In the tournament’s 13-year history no one has bowled as fast as Nortje. Nortje went past his South African compatriot Dale Steyn, who previously held the record at 154.4 kph which he set while playing for Deccan Chargers in 2012.
Fastest Balls in the history of IPL:
Anrich Nortje – 156.2kmph
Anrich Nortje – 154.8kmph
Dale Steyn – 154.4kmph
Anrich Nortje – 154kmph
Kagiso Rabada – 153.9kmph
This was Nortje’s maiden IPL season as he was roped in by the Delhi franchise as a replacement for England all-rounder Chris Woakes ahead of the start of the season. The 26-year-old proved to be a brilliant signing for DC.
The show against Sri Lanka will ensure that DC doesn’t get any second thoughts in renewing his contract for IPL.
