Previously, it was being reported that Shakib will skip the upcoming two-match Test series against South Africa to play in the 2022 Indian Premier League. However, after going unsold in the IPL auction, it has now been confirmed that the player will feature in the series.

“Shakib will be playing the Tests in South Africa. He had given us a letter that he wanted to skip Test cricket for six months due to the IPL, but we asked him to be available for the home series against Sri Lanka and he agreed,” said Nazmul, as per quotes in Cricbuzz.

“He wanted to skip the series as he wanted to play in the IPL but now since he is not going [for IPL], he will play travel to South Africa. Today I told him that I will talk with him regarding his future plans after he returns from South Africa, and he’s agreed,” he further added.

Bangladesh are currently playing a bilateral series against Afghanistan. They won the first ODI series by a 2-1 margin and will now compete in a two-match T20I series. Following this, the Tigers will travel to the rainbow nation, where they will be playing three ODI and a couple of Test matches.
