Smith and Boucher were about to board a flight for Mumbai for the launch event of the SA20 League team Joburg Super Kings when they ran into Dhoni who was also there. Joburg Super Kings launch: Chennai Super Kings Sports Limited, the owners of Chennai Super Kings in the IPL has named their franchise name Joburg Super Kings in the SA20 League. The team’s home ground will be the Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg. All of the linked South African players, including Dhoni, Smith, and Boucher, will be present at the team’s launch event in Mumbai. The inaugural season of Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) franchise T20 competition, known as “SA20,” will take place the following year. The SA20 League 2023 season starts on January 10 and ends on February 11 of that same year.

Faf Du Plessis has been selected by the Joburg Super Kings as one of their five direct acquisitions for USD 375,000. Additionally, the team signed Moeen Ali and Maheesh Theekshana from CSK for USD 400,000 and USD 200,000, respectively. Ahead of the first SA20 League, the squad has also recruited South African fast bowler Gerald Coetzee for USD 50,000 and West Indies all-rounder Romario Shepherd for USD 175,000 each.
Former New Zealand captain and current CSK head coach Stephen Fleming has been named as the team’s head coach by the Johannesburg-based franchise. With the exception of Albie Morkel as Assistant Coach, the JSK Team had kept the majority of its coaching staffs from the CSK franchise.
