In a recent interview, McGregor revealed why he decided to accept the coaching role despite being away from the UFC for more than a year. McGregor said, “It’s time for me to mess myself back in the game, you know. I was excited to get back to it. I couldn’t turn down the offer. I was happy with it. McGregor coached back on TUF 22 against Urijah Faber and found the experience valuable for his own development. “For me, when I started teaching and I used to coach a boxing class for John [Kavanagh] many years ago before I even got into the UFC.

REVEALED: Why Did Conor McGregor Agree To Coach against Team Michael Chandler at TUF 31?

The upcoming season of TUF will feature 16 fighters split between Team McGregor and Team Chandler. McGregor and Chandler will coach their respective teams, and the two teams will face each other in a tournament-style competition. The winner willearn a UFC contract.

TUF 31: Team McGregor vs Team Chandler premieres on Tuesday, May 30, at 10pm ET / 7pm PT in the United States on ESPN and ESPN+. New episodes will air each Tuesday.

The opportunity to coach on the show will allow McGregor to ease his way back into the UFC after over a year away from competition. His last fight was a loss to Dustin Poirier in July 2021.
