Fan tweets R.I.P Nice Conor McGregor

The fan wrote, “Thinking of this legend today. RIP Nice Conor McGregor, January 2021 – January 2021. When facing Donald Cerrone and Dustin Poirier, the Irishman, known for his loud trash-talking skills, showed a new side by complimenting both opponents rather than destroying them with words. However, many questioned whether McGregor needed to revert to his old Notorious persona after his TKO loss against Poirier in the second match.

One week before the Instagram post, former UFC welterweight Ben Askren claimed the Irish fighter was less “successful” while being kind to his opponents. He stated, “this Conor is not the same one from five years ago. Along with that, there are other differences. But I believe Conor is less successful without the s**t talk.”

For better or worse, all three of Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor’s fights against each other during their UFC careers have been very exciting. Two of their three matches have been won by Poirier, with the Irishman taking the win in the first encounter in 2014.

At UFC 178, “The Notorious” needed just one round to knock out Poirier, improving his record to 16-2. In 2014, when they were both in their mid-20s, neither boxer faced the other again until 2021.

The Louisiana native prevailed in their second encounter at UFC 257: Poirier vs. McGregor 2 in January 2021. Poirier was able to end the contest after just two rounds. This outcome logically prompted a trilogy match at UFC 264: Poirier vs. McGregor 3 six months later.

Due to a doctor’s halt, the outcome remained the same, with “The Diamond” prevailing in just one round. During the last seconds of the stanza, Conor McGregor sustained a leg injury that would stop the fight.
