Gujarat Lions association with Indian Premier League is left for just another two games. For Rising Pune Supergiant it may be a maximum of five more matches. Thereafter it’s end of the road for these two teams association with the IPL.

There is a little hope if the teams decide to return to IPL and the Board of Control for Cricket in India plans to revamp the league structure.

“No extension is being given to both the teams (RPS and Lions). The agreement was only for two years. Even if we make it a 10-team league, the two teams would have to bid afresh. The two teams are not being given any extension or anything,” says IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla.

Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals are set to make a comeback as their two-year suspension gets over. “As per the Supreme Court verdict, the two suspended teams are returning next year as their suspension period will be over,” added the IPL Chairman. “The issue of retaining IPL as 8-team league or having 10 teams will be discussed in the IPL GC. The 10-team league has to be approved by the GC.”

The IPL governing council in general is not in favour of making IPL the 10-team league as the number of matches will also extend to 84.
