Premier League: Manchester City defeats Tottenham to stay at the top of the table. They won the game 3-0 at the City of Manchester Stadium and now are 7 points clear of the 2nd position with a game in hand.
An Ilkay Gundogan second-half brace ensured victory for Manchester City in dominant fashion.
Manchester City takes the lead
The hosts were wasteful with their opportunities from penalties. Rodri converted from the spot to give the Citizens the lead.
Hugo Lloris got his glove on the ball but could not manage to keep the ball out as Manchester City got the lead in the 23rd minute.
Gundogan’s double
It just took Man City 5 minutes to double the lead for Pep Guardiola’s side in the second half.
It was the work of Raheem Sterling who set this one up by carving a dizzying path through the Tottenham penalty box.
Sterling passed the ball to Foden to complete a one-two and slipped Ilkay Gundogan through a short gap near the six-yard area. The German smashes the ball past Lloris in the 50th minute and Man City leads the game with 2 goals.
The 3rd goal for Manchester City and the 2nd for Ilkay Gundogan came in the 66th minute. City played the ball back to Ederson who absolutely leathered the ball downfield. Gundogan beat out of two defenders to muscle them off and finish the ball in the bottom-right corner.
Manchester continues their run at the top of the table. They have 53 points from 23 matches.
Tottenham is in the 9th spot. They have 36 points from 23 matches.
