The seventh installment of the Battlefield series, the Battlefield 2042 didn’t do well as it was expected by DICE. Battlefield 2042 becomes the first game of the series that does not have a single-player campaign and only features a multiplayer mode. Recently, Battlefield 2042 players are parting their ways with the game and are returning to the 2018 masterpiece, the Battlefield V. At least Steam numbers are suggesting the same and it is expected that Battlefield 2042 might lose more players from PC.

Battlefield 2042 – Futuristic Military Combat Gameplay
Battlefield 2042 performed really poor after its launch at the end of 2021. DICE and EA faced a huge backlash from Battlefield fans as the game turned out to be a major disappointment. Currently, Battlefield 2042 is one of the worst-reviewed games in Steam’s history and arguably the worst first-person shooter of 2021. Accordingly to SteamDB, Battlefield V boasts around 14,000 active players while Battlefield 2042 only has a little over 6,900 active players, which is less than half of Battlefield V. These numbers should definitely ring some alarms in EA and DICE as they are failing to keep up with the fans with their latest titles. Battlefield 2042 had technical issues right from its launch which led to a plethora of negative reviews in the gaming community. While Battlefield’s direct competitor, the Call of Duty series is also not doing well due to the current harassment situation in Activision, this might be the best time for DICE and EA to dominate the first-person shooter genre.

While it can be very much expected that DICE and EA will work rapidly to improve Battlefield 2042 across all platforms, the most recent one day patch wasn’t of much help either. Perhaps, in a few months, after some big updates, Battlefield 2042 might be able to improve its Steam reviews. But for now, it remains as one of the worst-reviewed games ever. DICE are also planning to bring new updates on Battlefield V in-order to maintain the traffic for PC users.
