PBKS vs RR in IPL 2021: Punjab Kings trio Markram, Rashid, Ellis excited to make IPL debuts after first training session
Punjab Kings will play the first game of their IPL 2021 Phase 2 when they take on the Rajasthan Royals. The game will kick off in Dubai with PBKS looking to turn around their fortunes, as they’re on the brink of a must-win situation to stay in the hunt for the playoffs. KL Rahul and Co. will hope to end a six-year drought of finishing outside the top 4, and the arrivals of Aiden Markram, Adil Rashid and Nathan Ellis will certainly add more dynamism to the squad.
Punjab Kings were dealt a huge blow when Aussie speedsters Riley Meredith and Jhye Richardson pulled out of the IPL, along with World No.1 T20I batsman Dawid Malan. Nonetheless, the franchise got to work quickly and brought in able replacements in Nathan Ellis, Adil Rashid and Aiden Markram. The trio had been under quarantine for the last few days and only joined up with the squad on Sunday, a couple of days before their clash against the Rajasthan Royals.

IPL 2021: Nathan Ellis, who took a hat-trick on his T20I debut for Australia and made it to their World Cup squad, said that he was really excited to be here having done his fair bit of quarantine over the past year. The Australian pacer said that he was over the moon when he received the call-up as it just followed his selection in the T20 World Cup. Nathan Ellis said, “Surreal is the word. I was just pacing up and down the room, starting to bowl myself in the mirror. It was obviously crazy and just so stoked.”
Adil Rashid meanwhile is excited to be making his IPL debut and hopes to pick the brains of the head coach and former leg spinner Anil Kumble. The English wrist-spinner hailed Kumble as one of the best leg-spinners to ever play the game. Adil Rashid said, “Definitely, I’ll pick his brain and try to learn from him and see if I can pick up things.”
IPL 2021: Aiden Markram revealed that he was on the tour of Sri Lanka when he received the opportunity to make it to the IPL. The South African revealed that he did not think much and just jumped on it and is excited to rub his shoulders with some of the current and former legends of the game. Aiden Markram said, “It is a powerful squad, there are legends like you mentioned in KL Rahul, Mohammad Shami and have guys like Gayle and Nicholas Pooran, Fabian Allen and Mayank Agarwal. It would be nice to rub shoulders with them once we get the opportunity to. But having mentioned that, I looked at the training tonight and some of the local players are incredible. India has great amount of talent which has been mentioned a lot, but to see it live is something that surprised me and is exciting as well.”
