Pakistan Tour of SL: Sri Lanka refuses to play ODIs, Pakistan to tour for only two-match Test series in July – Check WHY?
While the two-match Test series will be part of the 2021-23 cycle of the World Test Championship, the ODIs were not included in the ongoing ODI Super League and this is said to be the one of the reasons behind the cancellation of the 50-over games.
Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Sri Lanka Cricket’s CEO Ashley de Silva said, “The ODIs wouldn’t have been a part of the World Super League, so we decided against playing them.”

SLC is said to have made this decision keeping in mind players workload as well. The Pakistan series is sandwiched between Australia’s tour of Sri Lanka in June and the Lanka Premier League in August and also with the Asia Cup scheduled to be held in September and T20 World Cup coming up later this year. With the cancellation of the ODI series, the players can get the required break before preparing for the upcoming tournaments.
The schedule for the upcoming Test series is not yet out. Sri Lankan Test squad is currently in Bangladesh to play a two-match Test series, that will begin on 15th May at Chattogram.
