The Pakistan Super League 2020 season will start today as Quetta Gladiators open their title defence against two-time champions Islamabad United in Karachi. The match is scheduled to start at 9:30 pm India time.
A colourful opening ceremony will precede the season opener. The PSL LIVE broadcaster DSport, however, will not televise the opening ceremony.
Quetta Gladiators have received a jolt before going into the match as their seasoned batsman Umar Akmal was banned by the Pakistan Cricket board under the PCB anti-corruption code. Though the franchisee has been allowed to get a replacement, they will be a player short among the options to take on the Islamabad outfit.
However, they will be determined to open their title defence on a winning note.
Despite having lost Akmal, the Quetta Gladiators have in their ranks Jason Roy, Shane Watson, Ahmed Shahzad, Umar Akmal, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Ben Cutting. Moin Khan’s Azam Khan is one of the players to watch out for with his big-hitting abilities.
Naseem Shah and Mohammad Hasnain will lead the pace-attack with support from Ben Cutting, Fawad Ahmed, Mohammad Nawaz, and maybe Tymal Mills. The bowling attack is full of promise but relying on two teenagers for PSL 2020 could be a bit risky.
Islamabad United line-up includes Luke Ronch, Colin Ingram, Colin Munro, Dawid Malan and Phil Salt as the core of the batting group. They also have in their ranks Shadab Khan, Asif Ali, Hussain Talat, and Faheem Ashraf.
Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars, Peshawar Zalmi and Multan Sultans are the other four teams to compete in the Pakistan Cricket Board-owned league.
The match in India will be broadcast LIVE and Exclusively on Discovery’s sports channel DSports.
