Pakistan Mosque Blast: Peshawar Blast –A shocking bomb blast has left Pakistan reeling. On Sunday, at least 46 people were killed and 100 others were wounded in a deadly blast in Peshawar. The attack happened during Zuhr (afternoon) prayers in the provincial capital of Peshawar, close to former tribal areas that border Afghanistan. The blast occurred inside the mosque in the Police Lines area around 1.40 PM. Worshippers, which included personnel of the police, army and bomb disposal squad were offering the Zuhr (afternoon) prayers. The bomber who was present in the front row blew himself up. Lady Reading Hospital officials said 46 people have died so far.
The news hurt several Pakistan cricketers who expressed their concern and condolences on social media. Pakistan captain Babar Azam, veteran Shoaib Malik and former all-rounder Mohammed Hafeez were amongst the many to express their pain on Twitter.

Outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the blast. The outlawed TTP, known as the Pakistani Taliban, has carried out several suicide attacks in the past, targeting security personnel. Superintendent of Police (Investigation), Peshawar, Shazad Kaukab, whose office is close to the mosque, told the media that the blast occurred when he just entered the mosque to offer prayers. He said he luckily survived the attack.

A distraught rescue mission was underway at the mosque, which had an entire wall and some of its roof blown out by the force of the blast. “Many policemen are buried under the rubble,” said Peshawar police chief Muhammad Ijaz Khan, who estimated between 300 and 400 officers usually attended prayers at the mosque. He added, “Efforts are being made to get them out safely.”
Lady Reading Hospital is capable of coping with such emergencies, and public is requested to cooperate with the hospital administration. As the rescue effort went on, bloodied survivors emerged limping from the wreckage, while bodies were taken away in ambulances. Muhammad Asim Khan, a spokesman for the main hospital in Peshawar said “It’s an emergency situation.”
After the blast, the country was put on high alert. Checkpoints ramped up and extra security forces deployed. While in the capital Islamabad snipers were deployed on buildings and at city entrance points.
