Allen, Tickner added to NZC central contracts list

NewZealand Cricket Contracts: Finn Allen and Blair Tickner have been given their first New Zealand Cricket central contracts.

Blair Tickner and Finn Allen have accepted their first New Zealand Cricket central contracts. They have now been brought in filling the vacancies created by the departures of Trent Boult and Colin de Grandhomme.

Allen is set to be named on Tuesday in the New Zealand squad to contest the Twenty20 World Cup in Australia in October and November, while Tickner is also a chance to be included depending on injuries among the quick bowlers.

A big-hitting opening bat, 23-year-old Allen has played 13 T20s for NZ and featured for the Black Caps in the final game of their 3-0 ODI series defeat to Australia in Cairns on Sunday.

Tickner, 28, has played six ODIs and 11 T20s and was part of the NZ white-ball winter tours of Ireland, Scotland and the Netherlands along with Allen.

Black Caps head coach Gary Stead said the duo had been close to the top 20 contracted players announced in May.

“He’s [Tickner] a bowler who just keeps improving and we’ve been particularly impressed with his red-ball development, which saw him in the recent squads for the England and South Africa tests.

The New Zealand-born cricketer looked at some of the toughest moments of his career, both on and off the pitch, in the new film.

“He knows the environment, understands his role, and bowls with good pace and aggression.”

“Finn clearly has huge talent and potential.

“He’s shown he’s up to the international level in his limited opportunities to date.”
