NBA Draft 2020: James Wiseman has a tough choice to make before the NBA Draft 2020 kicks off in less than a day. He has to choose between Minnesota Timberwolves and Golden State Warriors. He revealed that he has not spoken to the Timberwolves.
The acknowledgment is notable because the Timberwolves have the first overall pick in the NBA Draft 2020, and the Memphis big man is expected to be one of the first players selected.
“I haven’t [talked to the Timberwolves],” Wiseman said. “But I’ve been getting a lot of recommendations from them. In terms of talking to them, I haven’t,” said James Wiseman.
According to ESPN, Wiseman observes conditions with the Golden State Warriors and the Charlotte Hornets, who have the 2nd and 3rd pick, respectively as more advantageous to his long-term growth. The Minnesota Timberwolves team already has an All-Star big man in Karl-Anthony Towns.
He has played only three games for the Memphis Tigers last season before leaving school amid an eligibility battle with the NCAA.
“I would feel good, whatever team that picks me, I’m truly grateful for that,” Wiseman said, when asked about the possibility that the Timberwolves select him even though the two sides haven’t been communicating. “Whatever team that picks me, I’m going to go in there, learn as much as possible, work my tail off, and just want to win.” continued Wiseman.
The Warriors are considered as a potential landing spot for James Wiseman, rather than the Minnesota Timberwolves. They also need more depth at the center position.
Wiseman averaged 25.8 points, 14.8 rebounds, 5.5 blocks and 1.3 steals through 32 games.
With All-Stars Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson back from injuries, the Warriors will be a threat to the LA Lakers when they defend their title.
