on 27th December 1988, Sidhu was involved in an altercation with a person named Gurnam Singh in which the latter passed away. Previously the Supreme court had exonerated Sidhu, however, the apex court reviewed its decision of 2018 and changed it consequently.
Previously Sidhu was fined for a minimal amount of Rs. 1000, however now as per the court order the former cricketer is scheduled to be taken into custody. The Punjab ad the Haryana High court previously charged Sidhu with homicide and handed him three-year imprisonment.

On Thursday the Supreme Court of India rejected the petition and the plea made by the victim’s family to hold Navjot Singh Sidhu for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, under Section 304A of IPC. But the apex court, however, decided to sanction a 1-year-jail term for the former Indian cricketer.
