After Michael Jordan, Pitbull is now part owner of the NASCAR Racing team
The Latino rapper and singer, whose real name is Armando Perez, is the second global celebrity to become a Nascar team owner in recent months following National Basketball Association legend Michael Jordan at 23XI Racing.
Justin Marks, the founder and owner of Trackhouse Entertainment Group, is the majority owner of Trackhouse Racing. Nascar industry veteran Ty Norris will serve as president of racing operations, while Mexico’s Daniel Suarez is the single-car team’s driver.
“I’ve been a fan of the Nascar story since the movie Days of Thunder,” Pitbull said in a statement, referencing the 1990 feature film starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. “As soon as I met Justin, Ty Norris, and Daniel, we were on the same page. They welcomed me aboard, and now we’re going to show the world Nascar is not only a sport but it’s a culture.”
Pitbull has extensive social media reach, with 25.5 million followers on Twitter and 8.2 million followers on Instagram
Pitbull will serve as an active partner on the Trackhouse executive team, as a brand and philanthropic ambassador. He will attend the season-opening Daytona 500 on February 14, which will have limited fan attendance.
Nascar to release ‘The Crew’ a new sitcom on Netflix
The Crew, a new Netflix sitcom focused on a small Nascar Cup Series team, will be released on February 15, the day after the stock car racing series’ season-opening Daytona 500 race.
Created in partnership with Nascar, The Crew will feature authentic racing footage, logos and cars.
The 10-episode series stars comedian Kevin James as the crew chief for the fictional Bobby Spencer Racing team.
Footage was filmed at the Michigan races last summer with Spire Motorsports fielding the show’s fictional team’s No. 74 Fake Steak-sponsored car that will be featured in the series.
It is hoped the series will help grow the Nascar fanbase and reach non-core fans.
Nascar’s managing director of entertainment marketing Matt Summers and chief digital officer Tim Clark are executive producers on The Crew.
