19-year old Carlos Alcaraz had a breakthrough season in 2022 as he became the youngest ever Grand Slam champion by winning the US Open title. He also created the record for becoming the youngest World No.1 in Tennis history.
Rafael Nadal is currently on a tour to Latin America for a series of exhibition matches and at a press conference, when asked about Carlos Alcaraz said, “There has always been a generational change. Now someone very special has arrived. Carlos is a very different player, who aspires to be one of the best in history.”
“He is young, he has started well, he has the potential to achieve great things and he is already achieving them. Happy to have someone very good in out country nd that we enjoy him for many years,” he added.
Nadal also spoke about Spanish Tennis and said, “We are a country with a great Tennis tradition. We are not a big country, nor do we have the Federation that has the resources. But we are a country that has opted to organise many tournaments of lower categories and that has had a very big impact on young people,” he said.
Carlos Alcaraz has ended his season after suffering an abdominal injury during his semifinal contest against Holger Rune at the Paris Masters. He missed the ATP Finals and is set to make his return only at the start of the 2023 season.
Menawhile, after a group stage exit at the ATP Finals, Nadal is now on a tour to South America, where he will play alongside Casper Ruud and will begin their tour at Buenos Aires, Argentina. They will travel to Santiago (Chile), followed by Bogotá, (Colombia), Quito (Ecuador) and Belo Horizonte (Brazil). The tour will finally end in Mexico City on December 1.
