“I would like to announce my retirement from T20 internationals and focus on Test and ODI formats of the game. I will be available to play franchise leagues when the opportunity arrives. Looking forward to proudly represent my nation in the two formats,” wrote on Twitter.

With this decision, it is also confirmed that the player will also not be available for the T20 World Cup, which starts next month in Australia. His experience in such a mega ICC event will surely be missed by his team mates.

It was only recently that Bangladesh were knocked out of the Asia Cup after a poor show. They lost against Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. At the individual level as well, he did not meet any success with the bat, getting out cheaply for four and one ruins.

Such kind of poor form coupled with his age (35) might have led to his current decision. Also, the shorter format is the most taxing among all. However, he has expressed his desire to playing franchise cricket. He is one of the few players in world cricket to have played 100 plus T20 matches. He retires with 1500 runs under his belt, 42 catches and 32 stumpings under his belt.

It will be interesting to see how long can he sustain himself in the other formats of the game. He has the game to still play for a couple of years, though. The right-hander has played 82 Tests and 236 ODIs so far.
