Ronaldo, who is one of the most popular athletes on the planet has a huge fan following in all the social media platforms. He has now amassed half a billion followers on the photo sharing app on Monday. With that, the 37-year old now has close to 10% of the world’s population as his followers.
With that feat, he now leads his rival Lionel Messi by a fair margin. Messi, the Argentina great, who is also in Qatar for the World Cup currently has 367 million Instagram followers. Both Ronaldo and Messi are the only two sports personalities in the Top 5 list of most followed people on Instagram.
This 500 million is also almost twice the number of followers that Virat Kohli has on Instagram. The former India cricket captain has 224 million followers.
