Chennai Super Kings are keen to sign Moeen Ali on a multi-franchise deal as per the latest reports. The England all-rounder is on the radar of the Texas Super Kings, CSK’s new franchise in the USA’s Major League Cricket. Should Moeen sign, he would follow the footsteps of Jason Roy who cancelled his ECB deal to play with the LA Knight Riders. Follow all cricket news and updates LIVE on Insidesport.IN

Unlike Roy however, Moeen Ali is a centrally contracted player. The 35-year-old remains a significant cog in England’s white-ball sides with two World Cups coming up. The management understands the predicament and believes Moeen could join forces in 2024 rather than 2023.

Ali already plies his trade for CSK and was one of the four players retained by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. A gun all-rounder, Moeen could also be signed for CSK’s SA20 franchise, the Joburg Super Kings. The franchise had signed Moeen as part of their pre-auction picks, but Moeen chose to play in the ILT20 instead. Moeen is in his third season with Chennai and was the first Englishman to participate in the 2021 final. CSK won the title that season for the fourth time.

Moeen is under contract with the ECB until October 1. He is an important part of England’s plans for this year’s 50-over World Cup in India, but he may retire from one-day internationals after the tournament. “There may come a time when I think that’s it for me,” he stated in March.

CSK already have Stephen Fleming as head coach for all three franchises. Faf du Plessis, a former long time CSK player, was roped in at Joburg, while Maheesh Theekshana is also part of the Joburg set up.

Moeen’s deal could see him feature for all three Super Kings sides. IPL franchises have spread their net across global leagues and similar contracts are on the rise. Mumbai Indians are rumoured to have offered a similar deal, while KKR’s Jason Roy is set to sign for the LA Knight Riders in the MLC.
