Messi transfer: As per a report by El Nacional, quoted by the Mirror, Lionel Messi is wanting a transfer from Paris Saint-Germain following a fresh fallout with Mauro Icardi. The six-time Ballon d’Or winner hopes to return to former club Barcelona in a potential swap deal. It is reported that Lionel Messi’s arrival has changed the dynamic in the PSG dressing room and Mauro Icardi may be a fall guy, despite scoring three goals for the club in Ligue 1 so far this campaign.

Meanwhile, the former Barcelona man has yet to score for his new club in Ligue 1 but has hit his stride in the Champions League, where he has netted three goals. Icardi believes the fact that Messi does not like him is the primary reason that he has not been called up to the international squad in over three years. He last played in a friendly against Mexico and has been overlooked by several managers in the past, with a preference given to Sergio Aguero, who is Messi’s close friend.

Messi transfer: Reportedly, Messi wanted to play with Aguero at the club level, which prompted the latter to sign for Barcelona as a free agent earlier this summer. However, Messi himself had to leave Spain due to Barcelona’s financial turmoil which rendered them unable to register the six-time Ballon d’Or winner. The 33-year-old now wants Aguero to join him in Paris, and the former Manchester City striker is reportedly seeking an exit from the club.

Icardi is not a regular starter in PSG’s strongest starting line-up, with Messi forming a fearsome attacking trident alongside Kylian Mbappe and former Barcelona teammate Neymar, while Angel di Maria – another Argentine teammate – could also step into that trio. Yet Icardi is the only senior central striker outside of Mbappe and if he were to leave the French club, they would be required to immediately add a striking replacement – with Aguero a potentially prime candidate.
