Messi, Guardiola contribute to Spain’s fight against Coronavirus

Barcelona icon Lionel Messi and Spaniard football manager of Manchester City Pep Guardiola have made generous contributions to the nation’s fight against the Coronavirus pandemic.

The two football legends have pledged donations of € 1 million ($1.08 mn) each towards the nation fight against the COVID-19 menace. Spain is the fourth most-affected nation by Coronavirus behind China, Italy, the USA. So for 47,610 positive cases and  3,434 deaths have been confirmed.

Guardiola comes from the Catalonia reason in Spain, which has also been home to Messi evince since had joined Barcelona as a 13-year-old professional. The region has been affected the most in the country.

Messi’s donation will be split between Hospital Clinic in Barcelona and another medical centre in Argentina, while Guardiola has reportedly made his contribution to a campaign launched by the Angel Soler Daniel Foundation of Barcelona.

Earlier, FIFA had made a $10 million contribution to the World Health Organisation (WHO) towards its fight against the Coronavirus pandemic. FIFA contribution was made for the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the WHO.
