When it comes to the hard court, the big Russian is one of the best in the business. The same has been witnessed in the first two matches of the competition. Medvedev has been quite majestic. In the first two matches, he has not dropped a single set, showcasing his dominance.
In the first match, he beat Stefan Kozlov 6-2, 6-4 and 6-0. Medvedev was not troubled much by his fellow opponent in the second round too, beating Arthur Rinderknech 6-2, 7-5 and 6-3. So it comes as no surprise when the lanky Russian is expected to steamroll past the qualifier in the third round of the competition.

Medveded, the defending champion, however, cannot afford to take it too easy in the third-round clash. Wu might not come lose the skill that the Russian possesses, but the Chinese plays with all his heart, and never gives up. It is this trait of his, which has helped Wu come a long way in the US Open so far.
Wu is not even much experienced and limited to playing in the Challenger tours mostly. But this is his time, and he has delivered. The Chinese knocked out 31st seed Basilashvilli 6-3, 6-4 and 6-0. He shone through in the second round too, beating N Borges in a marathon five-setter, score reading 6-7, 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 and 6-4 to set up a date with Medveded.
The Chinese qualifier will start the match as second favouite and has nothing to lose in the clash. He has already created history, becoming the first player from China to reach the third round at the US Open.
