Lisandro Martinez will reunite with his previous boss Erik Ten Hag who was the previous manager of Ajax. Despite signing Rafael Varane last season, the defensive unit of Manchester United was left vulnerable on multiple occasions. Therefore the new manager is keen on signing a left-footed center-back who is also a great passer of the ball. Adding to his ball-playing prowess, the young Argentine defender can also play in the central defensive midfield role.

Talks have been progressing with the Ajax defender for quite some weeks. Previously, the player was sought by Arsenal whose initial offer was turned down by Ajax. Manchester United then made an improved offer which was again rejected by the parent club. However, reports claim that the player who has been eager to play in the Premier League turned down the Arsenal offer and has been adamant to play for the Manchester Reds.

According to transfer reports expert Fabrizio Romano, the agreement between both the clubs and the player has been made. The deal for the player will be around an estimated fee of €55m. The player after having his rounds of medicals is expected to sign a contract at Old Trafford till 2027.

Further reports state that the player is traveling to Manchester to get his medicals done, followed by him signing the contract. Martinez is then expected to fly to Australia and join the team in the pre-season training. Manchester United is currently on a pre-season tour. Last week the team took on Liverpool in a friendly where United bettered their rivals with a scoreline of 4-0 at Bangkok. The team then played against Melbourne Victory where the Reds once again emerged victorious with a scoreline of 4-1.
