Prior to the opening game match against Brighton, Manchester United were keen to buy Rabiot and Arnautovic, to improve their midfield and striker options. With Anthony Martial injured and Cristiano Ronaldo keen on a move out, United are running out of striker options. This led them to bid for Marko Arnatovic.
However, Bologna decided that the Austrian striker is not for sale and rejected United’s opening bid. Marco Di Vaio, Bologna’s Sporting Director said, “We want to keep going with Arnautovic and keep him, he’s at the centre of our project. Of course we’re proud to receive interest from a club like Manchester United for one of our players, but Bologna’s wish now is to keep our current team and strengthen it in order to have an important season.”

As per the latest reports, Manchester United has moved away from the deal and won’t pursue the striker anymore. With the opening bid rejected, United is not at all interested to continue talks and negotiations.

Next on United’s radar is French midfielder Adrian Rabiot. This however is not the first time that the Premier League Club have expressed its interest to sign the midfielder. Previously in 2014 and in 2019 United was keen to but the 27-year-old midfielder. As per the latest reports, an agreement between Manchester United and Juventus has been agreed upon for the midfielder.

However, personal terms are yet to be agreed and the club is currently in negotiations with the player’s mother and agent Veronique. A transfer fee of around £15m has been agreed upon. Though Rabiot is relatively close to joining Old Trafford this however doesn’t indicate that the pursuit for Frenkie de Jong is off.
Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong remains United’s chief target for the summer. United are waiting for Barcelona to clear their financial crisis and then close the deal for the Dutch midfielder. Among other clubs, Chelsea is also keen on bringing de Jong to Stamford Bridge.
