Manchester United: Top 5 Potential candidates to take over United role; Zidane, Enrique among other names – Today afternoon, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was dismissed by Manchester United following their recent embarrassing run of form. But replacing him won’t be easy in the middle of the season with top managers committed to other clubs and nations elsewhere.

Michael Carrick will now be managing the United side until an interim manager is appointed or a permanent solution is found. Who could be the answer to Manchester United’s problem?

Here are Top 5 Potential candidates who could be the next manager at Manchester United

Zinedine Zidane

Zidane who is currently 49, in his two spells of being a Manager he has just coached Real Madrid but he did a splendid job for the Madristas filled with glory. Three successive Champions League wins with Real Madrid as well as two league titles certainly provides a good looking CV for any manager. Three of Ronaldo and Varane’s Champions League titles came under the French international Zidane.

He is currently a free agent but may be looking to grab the role of the French National Team Manager as Didier Deschamps contract runs out in 2022. Zidane has a great relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo from their time together at the Bernabeu and, showing he hadn’t lost any of his own class, the manager would be seen pinging in crosses for his talisman to convert in training.

He also knows Raphael Varane well from his time at Real and wanted to bring Paul Pogba to the club on several occasions. United’s current squad would be appealing to him, there may not be the need for expensive additions.

Although Zidane has failed to convert Academy graduates into star players and with United highly depending on their Academy players with the likes of Rashford, Greenwood, Henderson will be a talking point if he looks to take the role at Old Trafford.

Brendan Rodgers

Rodgers is a good option as he has a huge amount of Premier League experience and domestic experience would look very appealing to the United board.

He was a manager for Liverpool in 2012 to 2015 and that may play a part in ruling out him as an option due to Liverpool and Manchester United’s longstanding rivalry. The Foxes have missed out on the Champions League spots for the past two season and currently sit 12th after a 3-0 defeat to Chelsea yesterday.

Leicester have managed to win just 2 games in their last nine league games. They are level on points with Everton who play Manchester City in Matchday 12 of the Premier League.

Erik ten Hag

Ten Hag was linked with a number of top jobs after leading the four time European champions to the semi-finals of the Champions League for the first time since 1997 two years ago. Erik Ten Hag is destined for a big club and now switching to Manchester United would be a perfect timing to improve his CV.

Ten Hag has proven himself in the Champions League, his Ajax side are true to their philosophical roots and recruitment. He will help produce brilliant academy products and will help young stars find their feet. This could be an opportunity for United to really build a good team in the coming future.

Luis Enrique

The Spanish coach is another option to be a United manager with plenty of experience in getting the best out of a collection of talented individuals. He won the treble in his first season at Barcelona and added another La Liga title with a front three of Messi, Suarez and Neymar.

David De Gea who has hardly been used by the coach in Spain for the national games would be reluctant to have Enrique as his manager. Fluent in English, Luis Enrique has never hidden his desire to coach a club in the Premier League.

Mauricio Pochettino

The Argentine is the one that got away for many United fans as they kept faith in Solskjaer with Pochettino being a free agent after getting sacked in 2019 in Tottenham. He is currently in charge of French side Paris Saint Germain which includes a star studded team with Messi, Neymar, Mbappe, Donnarumma all in the squad.

He might not leave the club looking at his magical squad as PSG are favourites to win the Champions League. Therefore leaving PSG in the midst of an ongoing season for a role at United is a tough ask for Pochettino.
