Manchester United blew a goal lead for the second time in a week as they drew at home to Southampton. Cristiano Ronaldo spurned a golden opportunity to give the hosts the lead after just seven minutes when Jadon Sancho played him through on goal. The Portuguese forward rounded Fraser Forster but saw his shot cleared off the line by Romain Perraud.
They couldn’t be denied for much longer as United moved ahead in the 21st minute when Bruno Fernandes sent Marcus Rashford through down the right-hand side before he played the ball across goal for Sancho to tap in at the back post.

Southampton pulled level three minutes into the second half when Mohamed Elyounoussi found Che Adams in the box and the Scottish international’s shot found the back of the net via the far post.
Ronaldo was denied from close range by Forster but it was Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side who looked the more likely to grab the winner and Stuart Armstrong really should’ve done better when he was found with a free shot from 10 yards out but he blazed his effort over the bar.
Harry Maguire thought he had won the game for his side in the 93rd minute but his close-range header was kept out by a remarkable save from Forster. The draw sees United move level on points with fourth-placed West Ham while the Saints remain in 10th.
