The first instance happened way back in January 2006 and Ronaldo was still a youngster. It was a fierce game with a hostile crowd and it saw Manchester United lose their third game in their last four visits to the Etihad Stadium. But a young and hot-blooded Ronaldo had different ideas.

Ronaldo and his United teammates protested the call vehemently. He was lucky enough to avoid a second yellow card after he sarcastically applauded Webb for the booking.
The Portuguese forward was treading a fine line and a moment of madness in the 68th minute was enough to give him the marching orders. Ronaldo jumped high from a corner kick and handled the ball to the ground leading to his dismissal. He later insisted that he heard Howard Webb’s whistle and therefore, he handled the ball down. But he saw the yellow card turn into red and went off the ground for an early shower.
