Joshua Kimmich might be the perfect replacement for Ilkay Gundogan, according to Pep Guardiola, if the Manchester City captain decides to depart this summer. Guardiola, who signed German international Kimmich, 28, while serving as Bayern Munich’s manager, has been informed that the player was upset when Julian Nagelsmann was fired in March.

He is rumored to be looking for a new challenge, and the City manager has noticed him because of his versatility in playing across the back four and in midfield. Barcelona is intrigued, but their primary goal is to sign Gundogan for free should he want to leave the Etihad.

In case the City captain decides to leave, Guardiola is already searching for a replacement and is a huge supporter of his international teammate. Sadio Mane, a former Liverpool striker, is one of the players that Bayern is selling in an effort to acquire money to bolster their squad.

Bayern have informed City that they are unable to pay the £60 million requested to convert Joao Cancelo’s loan into a permanent transfer. However, the possibility of including Kimmich, 28, in any trade has raised the likelihood of reaching an agreement. Kimmich’s current contract has two years still to run, but he hasn’t indicated that he would be open to signing an extension.

In addition, Guardiola has looked into Matteo Kovacic of Chelsea, who is a year older and would fetch a similar £50 million transfer fee.

In the meantime, if Cancelo doesn’t come back to the Etihad, he might receive Champions League and Premier League winners’ medals as a farewell gift. He made 17 league appearances before moving to Munich and played in all of City’s group-stage games in Europe.

Manchester City Transfers: Multiple clubs interested in Joshua Kimmich

Joshua Kimmich, a midfielder for Bayern Munich, is wanted by other clubs in Europe, claims Marca. The 28-year-old international from Germany is reportedly seen by Barcelona as a potential replacement for Sergio Busquets, who will depart the Camp Nou as a free agent this summer.

Liverpool and Arsenal are rivals to the Blaugrana, and both English Premier League teams are keeping a close eye on him. To part with Kimmich, the Bundesliga team is seeking a transfer fee of at least €60 million

The club captain’s contract isn’t due to expire until the summer of 2025, therefore the Bavarians are unlikely to feel under pressure to decrease their demands for him. 2015 saw Kimmich relocate from VfB Stuttgart to the Allianz Arena for a €7 million transfer fee, he has since gone on to make 345 competitive appearances in that time.
