What makes Tendulkar’s Tamil team the PKL leaders!!!

It is in the name. Sachin Tendulkar has made his Tamil Nadu franchise team Pro Kabaddi League leaders. Leaders they will remain come what may. Because, it is in the name.
The Chennai based franchise, which will make its PKL debut this season, is named Tamil Thalaivas – literary meaning the Tamil leaders.

The name is revealed by the the iconic cricketer and the PKL Chennai franchise co-owner in a Twitter post.

Season five of PKL is scheduled to get underway on July 28 and the team would be coached by K Baskaran.

Sachin will not just bring the value to his business enterprise. He is a committed sports entrepreneur. Pro Kabaddi League will be the third sporting venture for Sachin following his commercial interests in the Indian Super League club Kerala Blasters and Premier Badminton League franchise Bengaluru Blasters. The Master’s sports business interests go beyond sports leagues. Sachin has in January this year launched his own sports goods and sports apparel range in association with the Australian sportsgear brand Spartan.


Cricketing genius’ many other sports business interests run beyond league, but in and around sports. He holds an 18% equity in the sports based entertain company Smaash. As an entrepreneur he has been part of an on-line sports memorabilia sports venture with 26% stake.

SachinSachin takes his corporate interest with seriousness. He remains involved. He understands the conversion values of his presence, which the kabaddi lovers and Tamil Thalaivas supporters will get to see soon.

Chennai franchise will also take kabaddi back to its ancient roots. The sport is believed to have its origin in Tamil Nadu and name kabaddi too is said to have been derived from the Tamil word ‘kai-pid’, which means ‘to hold hands’.

Pro Kabaddi league with four team additions is also poised to surpass other Indian sports leagues in terms of geographical representation – 12 teams, 11 States, 130 matches and 13 weeks of action.
