After being put into bat first, Lucknow’s Dushmanta Chameera made life difficult for RCB’s top order as he dismissed Anuj Rawat and Virat Kohli off successive deliveries in the very first over.
Seeing wickets crumble, the skipper took on the responsibility of playing a big innings to help his team get to a good total. He showed intent right from the start as he started off the innings by giving a perfect reply to Chameera’s hat-trick ball, hitting it away for a boundary.
He continued to hold one end but his partners kept losing their wickets as RCB were 65/4 by the end of 8 overs. Du Plessis then decided to shift gears as he accelerated the scoring. In the 14th over, he got to his fifty off 40 deliveries.
He continued his assault on the bowlers and soon reached 94 off 61 deliveries and was on course to hit his maiden IPL ton with one over left in the game. He however got out in the penultimate ball of the innings, trying to go big and was caught at deep backward square, falling short of century by four runs.
His knock however helped his team post a good total on the board as LSG will now be chasing 182 runs.
