Messi is in the final year of his contract at PSG. He penned a two-year deal with the option for one further year when he joined the French champions from Barcelona in 2021. Earlier this month, Barcelona President Joan Laporte revealed his intentions of bringing the superstar back to Camp Nou. “We plan to make some details in private. We will do something to recognise who has been the best player in the history of Barca. Leo’s stage did not end as we all wanted. We have a moral debt with him, and we would like the end of his career to be in the Barca shirt.” However, the process is a complicated one and PSG have no intentions to part with Messi as things stand.

When it comes to Messi, the player hasn’t made any public statements regarding rumours about his return. Rather, Messi has maintained that he is not considering a move at the moment. However, some reports suggest that Messi is ‘open’ to a move to Barcelona as his family still miss living in the city, regardless of how nice Paris is. Messi could also return for financial reasons, knowing a move back to Barcelona would be ‘lucrative’ for himself due to the money he’d receive in wages and marketing.
Amidst all the rumours, Messi is enjoying a stellar season with PSG. The Argentine superstar has already scored 11 goals in 16 competitive games this season, along with 13 assists.
