Last year, Messi was forced to switch from the Catalans to Paris Saint-Germain. This was because Barcelona’s weak financial foundation and exorbitant salary structure made it difficult for them to finance him. At a tearful news appearance to announce his departure, the Argentine superstar sobbed openly. He explained that Barca just couldn’t afford to re-sign him. The news of Messi’s departure equally shocked La Blaugrana supporters. Messi, unquestionably the best player in club history, scored an astounding 672 goals in 778 games while playing for Camp Nou.

Aguero recounted the circumstances that led to Messi’s iconic tenure with Barcelona. In a recent interview with El Chringuito, he still wore a pained expression as he did so. He said:
“When the whole thing with Leo happened, I thought someone must have hacked Barcelona’s social media accounts. I thought, this is a joke. I was with [Twitch host] Ibai drinking mate and all of a sudden… he looked at the phone and exclaimed: “No way! is this true?” He showed me the phone with the statement from Barça.”
“I said, ‘Ibai, mate, this is impossible’. I told him right there and then that it was obvious that the website had been hacked and that it was probably just a bit of sweet talk from Barça who would later say that he’s staying. “I decided to wait, but the hours went by and I saw that the statement was still there. Suddenly, I thought, ‘Hey, you know what? no one has hacked it.” he added.

Aguero also stated that Messi was quite optimistic in his ability to negotiate a contract extension. He said that Messi frequently expressed h to be photographed wearing the Barca shirt. The player had one in his room.
“We were at the Copa America and he had the Barca shirt in his room. And every 3-4 days he would tell me “I think my contract is renewed, let’s take a picture with the Barcelona shirt.” he stated.
The former Manchester City player decided to join his international teammate at Camp Nou in June 2021. He had great expectations for the transfer. But Messi’s departure from Barcelona was revealed only a few weeks later, completely shocked Aguero. Due to a heart problem, the Argentine was forced into early retirement after only five games with the Blaugrana.
